AI Compliance Monitoring: Common Questions
What is AI compliance monitoring?
The continuous recording and review of AI usage against your policies: prompts, responses, models used, policy events, and data classifications, retained in an audit-ready form. Monitoring is what turns a written AI policy into a demonstrable control.
How is it different from AI observability?
Observability is the engineering view (is the system healthy, fast, and behaving); compliance monitoring is the regulatory view (can we prove who did what with which data). Healthcare organizations need both, and the same instrumentation usually feeds both.
What should the audit record contain?
At minimum: the user, timestamp, prompt and response, model and version, any policy action (block, mask, warn), and the data classification involved. If you cannot produce every AI interaction that touched PHI last quarter, the record is not audit-ready.
